You have now reached an exciting part of your IVF cycle – your trigger shot!
A trigger shot is a commonly used name for an injection of hCG (human Chorionic Gonadotrophin). This hormone starts a development cycle that helps the egg to mature and pull away from the follicle wall, readying it for collection.
Your doctor will tell you when you inject the trigger shot – this is a highly specific timing, so set an alarm for accuracy! It is usually taken about 36 hours before your scheduled egg retrieval, but your doctor will tell you the exact timing. Your entire cycle depends on taking the trigger shot at the right time.
You’ll stop taking all GnRH analogue or antagonist medication when you inject your trigger shot.
